Head of Central Back Office (Smart Ticketing) - UK Leading Rail Company - 100,000 + Benefits - London 

The Role?

The Central Back Office (CBO) provides an industry shared service to enable the use of smart ticket solutions by delivering a high performing back-office service which enables a fully interoperable national smart ticketing system for now and the future. The CBO will enable other Train Operating Companies to deliver a fully interoperable service which allows their customers to travel across The UK. The CBO will also enable TOCs to offer new/future smart ticketing solutions and the ability to increase intelligence on journeys through access to new data.   

Key Responsibilities

  • Internally within CBO management of a team of circa 30 FTE directly (7 DR), and much more indirectly to ensure successful delivery of smartcard CBO services
  • Lead on improvement and innovation within this remit
  • Engage with senior stakeholders, Senior Leadership and wider rail industry stakeholders
  • Lead on the establishment of a sustainable robust and funded future operating model for CBO
  • Play a leading role in influencing and shaping smart solutions within the company 
  • Accountable for budget of Circa 5.5m per annum

Essential Experience/Characteristics 

  • Managing complex and critical technical projects with multiple stakeholders 
  • Knowledge and experience of website architecture, CMS and E-commerce 
  • Knowledge and understanding of Rail Systems 
  • Experience in managing budgets 
  • Analytical with the ability to resolve complex problems
